Dental Services You Can Count On

When it comes to finding a dentist that is able to provide the services that you need, it is important to take the time to do some research. You want to make sure that you choose a dentist who is not only able to offer a wide range of services, but one who you feel comfortable with. Dr. Manu Dua is a Calgary native. After graduating from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, he made the decision to move back to Calgary to be closer to friends and family and to pursue his dream of practicing dentistry and helping people. With services that are comparable to Blue Cross Alberta, Dr. Manu Dua and his team are dedicated to providing comprehensive, full-service dental care to Calgary area residents and are happy to offer the following services.

While many people may not think about it, dental emergencies are rather common. All it takes is a simple slip, biting down on something that is a little harder than it first appears, or an injury to the mouth to affect a person’s oral health. When a person breaks a bone or injures themselves at home, they know, almost overwhelmingly, that a visit to the emergency room is the best course of action to take. Unfortunately, fewer people are aware the dentists offer emergency services designed to treat dental emergencies. At Montgomery Dental Centre, we subscribe to the philosophy that every person suffering from a dental emergency has the right to be seen in a timely manner. In many cases, dental emergencies need to be treated as soon as possible in order to make sure that no additional damage is done to the gums or teeth. To meet this need, we offer same-day emergency bookings in order to better serve those patients who need our help as quickly as possible. Some of the dental emergencies that we treat include:

  • Broken, chipped, or cracked teeth
  • Infection of the gums
  • Losing a permanent tooth due to trauma
  • Having a constant dull aching and throbbing from a particular tooth

If you are suffering from any of these issues, please do not hesitate to reach out to us as soon as possible. We will schedule an appointment with you as soon as we can and help to make sure that your dental emergency is taken care of in a swift manner.

Even the most diligent person, a person who takes the time to brush and floss every single day, will occasionally run into issues with tooth decay. While people can fight against the effects of tooth decay with a proper oral hygiene regimen, sometimes developing a cavity is simply unavoidable. Once this cavity is cleaned and removed from the tooth, a filling must be put in place in order to make sure that the space in the tooth where the cavity developed does not suffer from any more decay. Fillings may also be used in instances where a tooth has become chipped or broken in order to make sure that tooth can still function and to avoid the need for a full tooth extraction. When you come to Montgomery Dental Centre, Dr. Dua will take the time to fully assess your needs and determine whether or not cavity needs to be treated immediately or if it simply needs to be monitored to make sure that it does not worsen. If you are worried that you may have a cavity or you are experiencing pain with a particular tooth, please reach out to us to see if our cavity services may be able to help you find relief from your pain.

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that, occasionally, people require root canal therapy. This dental procedure in particular seems to cause patients a great deal of stress and, in many cases, people convince themselves that this is one of the scariest procedures they can have completed. Luckily, with technological improvements and the general evolution of dental practices, modern root canals are much more pleasant than they used to be. Root canals become necessary when when the nerve chamber of a tooth, the area that contains the root of the tooth and the dental pulp, becomes compromised by a bacterial infection. Most often, bacteria is introduced to the nerve chamber when a deep cavity is present, a tooth is broken, or the tooth suffers some other form of trauma. When you choose us to handle your root canal therapy, you can rest assured that we will make every effort to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure. With refined techniques, the latest in dental technology, and an experienced staff, we can typically perform a root canal in a single visit and with minimal discomfort to the patient. Visit our root canal page to learn more about this service.

Visiting a dentist twice a year for general cleanings is one of the most important steps that a person can take to make sure that their teeth and gums are as healthy as possible. General cleanings accomplish two things. First, they allow us to make sure that any plaque or tartar that has developed along a patient's gum line is scraped away. Both of these substances lead to the development of gum disease and, by making sure that they do not stay present in the mouth longer than absolutely necessary, we can help to make sure that the health of the gums and teeth are not compromised by harmful bacteria. Second, general cleanings give us a chance to identify any potential issues that may have a negative effect on a patient’s oral health. Prevention, especially in the world of dentistry, is the best way to make sure that the health of the mouth is kept as optimal as possible. When you visit us at Montgomery Dental Centre for a general cleaning, we will make sure that your mouth is as healthy as possible, take the time to discuss any issues that may be present or are at risk of developing, and work with you to develop a care plan that will handle all of your dental needs. Visit our website today to schedule an appointment and let us help you keep your mouth as healthy as possible.

Although we will do our best to make sure that none of our patients have to utilize this service, sometimes the best way to treat a tooth is to have it extracted. In cases where the tooth has become damaged through trauma or advanced stages of decay, removing the tooth and having it replaced with a dental appliance such as an implant, crown, or bridge, is often the best way to make sure that other areas of the mouth are not affected by a single bad tooth. When you visit Montgomery Dental Centre for an extraction, we will do our best to provide an experience that delivers as little pain and discomfort as humanly possible. Through the use of anesthesia, a slight bit of pressure is the only sensation that the majority of our patients feel. After the tooth has been extracted, Dr. Dua will go over the steps you need to take in order to make sure that the vacant socket does not become infected after the procedure is completed.

When it comes to repairing damaged teeth, fillings and other bonding agents can only accomplish so much. If you have a small cavity or chip in your tooth, chances are good that a filling will be able to repair your tooth and help alleviate any pain that you may be feeling. However, if a tooth is chipped, cracked, or broken past a certain point, a dental crown may need to be placed over the tooth in order to make sure that no additional damage occurs. Crowns are designed to mimic the appearance of a patient’s natural teeth and, in many cases, people struggle to even tell the difference between a person’s real teeth and a crown that has been placed.

Our wisdom teeth removal services are, in our opinion, some of the most important dental services that we offer. Like other vestigial structures in the body, wisdom teeth once served a function but, in our modern form, many people's’ mouths are not equipped to handle the introduction of unnecessary teeth. This can lead to the wisdom teeth becoming impacted, a situation where they do not fully erupt through the gums, increasing the chances that painful inflammation or infection will occur. Removal of the wisdom teeth comes with many benefits and helps to mitigate the possibility of many issues including:

  • Infection of the gum due to trapped food
  • Lower jaw and sinus pain
  • Crowding of the other teeth
  • Cavities on wisdom teeth which cannot be repaired

If you are suffering from issues related to your wisdom teeth, please get in touch with us today at Montgomery Family Dental and let us see what option is best for your situation. We will determine whether or not you need to have all of your wisdom teeth removed or if the removal of certain teeth is enough to help alleviate the issues that you are experiencing.

In cases where a patient has had to have a tooth extracted, a replacement option must be put in place in order to make sure that the other teeth do not shift into the newly vacant space and that the health of the jaw bone is not compromised. Dental bridges are used in cases where a person is missing one or multiple teeth. The bridge uses the teeth ahead and behind the missing space as an anchor for the bridge that will fill the space where the missing tooth once occupied. Dental implants are similar to dental bridges; however, the means by which they fill the space where a tooth once was is more involved. To date, dental implants are the best choice for replacing a missing tooth and help to not only make sure that the rest of the teeth in a person’s mouth don’t shift, but also provide the jawbone with an anchor to attach itself to. This helps to promote the health of the jawbone, further ensuring that a person's remaining teeth will not be affected by the loss of a tooth.

If you are interested in learning more about our dental implant and bridge services, please get in touch with us today. A missing tooth is a situation that should be handled as quickly as possible in order to make sure that no additional damage is caused to the rest of the mouth and we would be happy to sit down with you to discuss your options!

In cases where a person has lost the majority of their teeth or they’ve experienced an issue that necessitated the extraction of their teeth, we offer denture services to help restore function and aesthetics. Dentures take some time to get used to, which is why we here at Montgomery Dental Centre work closely with our patients to ensure that their dentures are as comfortable and functional as possible. To meet the needs of as many Calgary patients as possible, we offer three denture services.

  • Complete Dentures: This denture type is meant to offer a complete replacement solution for a patient’s teeth. This can include both the upper and lower teeth or individual upper or lower teeth sets.
  • Partial Dentures: For patients that are only missing a few teeth, a partial denture can be a beneficial and economic solution to replacing teeth. Similar to dental bridges, partial dentures help to restore the function a patient’s mouth and ensure that the remaining teeth do not shift from their natural position.
  • Immediate Dentures: In cases where a patient wants immediate replacement after the removal of their teeth, we are able to fabricate a denture that is placed on the same day as the extraction process. These dentures are typically left in place until  more permanent dentures are provided after the gums have healed from the dental extractions.
